All participants must be able to start the program on May 24, 2010. Students are expected to work a minimum of 40 hours per week in the laboratory. During the 10 weeks there will be training on the Responsible Conduct of Research. All participants are required to attend this training. At the end of the program a project report must be submitted to the College of Graduate Studies Dean's Office, Room 102 BSB. The report should be in the style of a short scientific journal article. A separate abstract should be submitted electronically. Students are expected to make an oral presentation of their project at the end of the program and must also present their research at the Perry V. Halushka MUSC Student Research Day in November 2010. Dates for the final presentations are July 29th and July 30th and participants are expected to make the presentation on one of those two dates. A survey will be distributed to participants, which must be completed and turned in at the end of the program.

Mentors are also required to submit a report at the end of the program to include the following:

  1. The relevance and impact of accomplishments of their SHP student to their research.
  2. An assessment of the productivity of the SHP student in the research environment.
  3. Outlines of the actions that have been or may be taken to further encourage the research potential of the SHP student.
